The HAM RADIO
The International Amateur Radio Exhibition is the platform for radio operators from all over the world
Although the name HAM RADIO has nothing at all to do with the English word for ham, the origin of the term HAM is not proven. According to short stories, however, the abbreviation should go back to the initial letters of three persons who founded their own amateur radio station around 1908.
About 110 years later, amateur radio has lost nothing of its fascination. Even in times of Internet and mobile phone, many new techniques can be combined with the hobby and are from some areas become indispensable. After all, it is a hobby that connects people worldwide and can be used as an effective coordination aid in the event of a disaster.
The HAM RADIO serves as a platform for radio amateurs to meet and exchange. As one of the largest amateur radio shows in the world, in addition to the Hamvention Dayton / Ohio, USA and the Ham fair in Tokyo / Japan, the exhibitors and visitors of HAM RADIO come from over 32 countries worldwide to Friedrichshafen. A special feature of HAM is the mix of commercial exhibitors, the worldwide network of associations and the largest radio flea market in Europe with about 280 participants from 16 countries.
